Diia.Education: Ukraine’s one-stop shop for Digital Skills and Reskilling

Diia.Education is Ukraine’s national edutainment platform for digital literacy and reskilling. Launched in 2020 with the support of the Swiss-Ukrainian EGAP program implemented by East Europe Foundation (EEF) and relaunched in 2023 with support from EEF and Google.org, it now serves over 2.7 million registered users and has issued more than 4.5 million certificates.

The platform blends accessible formats — educational series, simulators, tests, and most recently, Byte Learning – to help people of all ages acquire relevant digital and professional skills.

At its core, Diia.Education is a one-stop shop for digital skills, reskilling and career transitions, offering:

• Over 230 free educational series and 65 simulators in an edutainment format
• A national digital literacy assessment suite (Digigram) aligned with the EU’s DigComp 2.1 and 2.2
• More than 200 Byte videos (bite-sized microlearning on topics like AI, cybersecurity, career development, soft skills, and mental health)
• A career module with 50+ profession-specific programmes, from social media marketing (SMM) to baking
• A growing network of 5,000 offline digital education hubs
• Integration with job platforms, helping over 241,000 users connect with employment opportunities

Ukraine’s take on microlearning: short, focused videos designed for real-life application — from personal cybersecurity to emotional resilience. Built for modern attention spans and informed by cognitive science (e.g., the CASTLE model), Byte Learning supports just-in-time, context-relevant skill building.

Accessibility

Diia.Education is a flagship, barrier-free digital initiative in Ukraine:

• All 230+ educational series include Ukrainian and English subtitles
• 21 courses are translated into Ukrainian Sign Language
• The interface is screen reader–friendly, with adjustable text size, contrast, and spacing
• A dedicated Accessibility section offers 20+ learning resources on inclusion, digital rights, and respectful communication in society

Infrastructure at scale

Diia.Education supports a nationwide digital education infrastructure. For example, 35% of Ukrainian schools are connected to IT Studios — a modern informatics curriculum, co-developed with the Ministry of Education, covering AI, programming, data analysis, and digital citizenship.

What’s Next: AI-powered self-education

In 2025, Diia.Education enters a new phase: personalised, AI-driven learning.

With the support of a second Google.org grant, the platform will integrate artificial intelligence to build individualised learning trajectories, helping users discover relevant content, track skill progress, and receive targeted recommendations based on their goals.

Diia.Education is more than a digital learning platform. It is a public infrastructure for resilience, adaptability and lifelong learning – showing how a democratic state can empower its people through open, inclusive and forward-thinking education.
